Pollination Station
"The state of California is home to an estimated 28,000 species of insects, about 32 percent of which are endemic [only found here]. These species represent about 30 percent of all known insects in the United States and Canada." -Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund
Not only do many of our native plant species and agricultural crops depend on native pollinators, birds also depend on them for their survival. Native plants support more caterpillars- which are a vital food source for birds raising their young- than non-native plants do. -The Audobon Society
Who are these pollinators anyway? Here are some of the beautiful and interesting birds and bugs we've spotted in our gardens!

Post Script- a note from the founder
Friends,
Amidst non-stop news cycles, technological acceleration, and media overload, it's more important than ever to find solace in nature. Nature can be found anywhere we seek it. Tragically, in an increasingly urbanized world, and with the omnipresent reach of technology, we have to create opportunities to witness nature and give it room to grow. Allow the earth to breath and let the water soak in. Cultivate seeds and spread them from our front door to vacant lots to roadsides and parking lots. Whether in a neglected corner of our city or in place of a thirsty lawn, we can find room to support diversity and reverse the unacceptable species losses of the last century. In doing so, we make places where our thoughts have room to breathe, we stop to notice them, and we get to know ourselves, our community, and our environment a little better. In the act of caring for the earth and its most vulnerable creatures, we heal ourselves.
With Gratitude,
Kai Lao Craig
